Setting up a self check-in kiosk

Before you start

You need a resident list in the app, because the kiosk finds households from it, and a tablet with a current browser. The kiosk never shows a list of residents on screen.

Set it up

These steps take about as long as a coffee:

• Sign in as an administrator and open the community, then Self check-in.
• Switch on self check-in for that community. It is a setting per community.
• Choose which ways residents may identify themselves: a house number and last name, a house number and household PIN, or a printed QR household card. Decide too whether residents may add guests.
• If you use household PINs, create the missing ones in the same screen and hand them out. If you use cards, print one per household from the app; issuing new cards revokes the old ones.
• At the gate, sign in on the tablet as staff and open Start self check-in. Put the tablet in its stand.

What a resident sees

A welcome screen with one button, then a screen to find their household, then a screen to say who is here and how many guests, within your limit. A confirmation shows and the screen returns to the start by itself for the next person. Check-ins made at a kiosk are recorded as kiosk check-ins.

Good to know

The kiosk follows the same opening hours and guest limit as a staffed gate. A household that is barred, suspended or behind on dues is sent to staff. A hand scanner reads QR cards on any device. A tablet's own camera reads them only in browsers that support barcode detection, and Safari on a tablet does not, so with Safari use a hand scanner or one of the other two ways.

Leaving self check-in takes the pool PIN, so a curious visitor cannot exit the kiosk. Set the pool PIN in the community settings first. The free How to check in at the kiosk sign on the shop page shows residents the four steps.
